Monterey County Farm Bureau

Workshops & Trainings

On December 13, 2017, in advance of the opening reception kicking off the inaugural Organic Grower Summit (OGS), the Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will provide a continuing education outreach program for Pest Control Advisors, Private Applicator Certificate holders, and Qualified Applicators from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Monterey.

The program will feature guest speaker Brain Leahy, Director of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), and will be hosted by Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner, Eric Lauritzen. Presentations on the pesticide use near schools’ regulations, the farm worker advisory committee and pilot posting project, and worker protection standards will be covered. Attendees will receive two hours of DPR approved continuing education hours.

“The opportunity for growers and farmers to obtain education credit as a prelude to the first ever Organic Grower Summit is another example of how OGS is bringing together various facets of the organic supply and service provider chain to share ideas and information through education, “said Tonya Antle, co-founder of the Organic Produce Network (OPN).

OPN, in conjunction with California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), is hosting the OGS and kicking off the event with an education outreach program that will provide growers and certified applicators an outstanding opportunity to learn about new laws and regulations as it relates to both organic and conventional fresh produce production. The CE session is limited to 100 people and registration is available on a first-come first serve basis by calling the Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner office duty line at: 831-759-7340.
